President Donald J. Trump has put New York Governor Kathy Hochul on final notice, declaring that the state’s radical, anti-business, and anti-driver policies are leading the entire region to disaster.
With New York City residents on the eve of a high-stakes mayoral election, the President took to Truth Social to lambast the governor for “killing the entire region.” He issued a direct and necessary threat: The federal government is preparing to get involved and “terminate” the state’s disastrous congestion pricing scam.
This is the showdown that New York’s working families have been waiting for. For months, they have been held hostage by Hochul’s elitist, out-of-touch agenda. Now, the President is stepping in to say, “Enough.”
Hochul’s ‘Ridiculous’ War on the Working Class
The centerpiece of Hochul’s failing agenda is the “ridiculous CONGESTION PRICING” scheme, a highly unpopular tax that took effect in January. This plan, sold to the public as a “green” initiative to clean the air, has been exposed as nothing more than a massive, regressive tax on the middle class.
The plan charges drivers up to $27 in fees just to enter Manhattan.
President Trump, a man who knows New York better than anyone, called it exactly what it is: a complete and total disaster.
“New York City is getting KILLED by her ridiculous CONGESTION PRICING, where people have to pay a fortune to come into Manhattan – So they just don’t come!” the President wrote.
He is 100% correct. This isn’t a “fee”—it’s a multi-billion dollar shakedown. It punishes nurses, construction workers, and police officers who live in the outer boroughs and suburbs. It strangles small businesses, delivery drivers, and contractors. It tells the entire nation that New York City is closed for business.
“The place is a ghost town,” Trump fumed. He is right. This elitist war on cars is the final nail in the coffin for a city already reeling from years of mismanagement.
The Federal Fight: A Patriot vs. The Swamp
This is not a new fight, folks. The President and his administration have been working to save New Yorkers from this scam for almost a year, only to be blocked by the local political machine.
In his post, President Trump declared his next move: “I am going to ask our Transportation Secretary, Sean Duffy, to take a good, long look at terminating New York City Congestion Pricing.”
Secretary Duffy is a patriot who has been on the front lines of this battle from day one. Back in February, Duffy wrote a formal letter to Governor Hochul, notifying her that he was pulling federal approval for the program.
He called it what it is: “a slap in the face to working-class Americans and small business owners.”
The Trump administration, led by Duffy, correctly argued that the MTA and Hochul had failed to conduct a proper environmental review. They had not been honest about the crushing economic impact this would have on working families.
The administration then did exactly what it should: On March 21, it demanded the MTA stop collecting the tolls.
This is where the arrogance of New York’s unelected bureaucracy was put on full display. How did the MTA respond to this federal order?
They countersued the federal government.
In a stunning display of hubris, the MTA dismissed the Trump administration’s lawful order as a “royal decree.”
Think about that. An unelected, failing, and notoriously corrupt state-level transit authority believes it can ignore the federal Department of Transportation. This is the very definition of the swamp fighting back. They are terrified of a President who is not afraid to challenge their power.
An Activist Judge Steps In
The swamp, of course, protects its own.
When the MTA sued the administration, they went searching for a friendly judge—and they found one.
In May, a federal judge issued a temporary restraining order (TRO), blocking the Department of Transportation from canceling the toll. This activist judge single-handedly prevented the President’s order from taking effect, forcing the program to continue.
This is the D.C. playbook in action: When you are losing on the facts and the politics, find an activist judge to “pause” reality and give you a political lifeline.
As a result of that single, political TRO, the illegal congestion tax continues to be collected to this day.
President Trump’s new announcement is a clear signal that the time for “negotiations” and “pauses” is over. He is making it clear that the full power of the federal government is being marshaled to override this judicial activism and kill this program once and for all.
A Pattern of Failure: ‘The Entire State is Going to Hell’
As President Trump correctly pointed out, the congestion scam is just one part of Hochul’s disastrous leadership.
The President also blamed the governor for “killing the entire region” with “OUT OF CONTROL” energy prices.
This is the other side of the radical “green” crusade. For years, Hochul and her predecessors have waged a war on reliable American energy.
Trump specifically referenced the failed Northeast Supply Enhancement (NESE) project. This was a crucial pipeline expansion that would have brought clean, affordable natural gas to millions of homes and businesses in New York City and Long Island.
But the radical environmental lobby, which controls Governor Hochul, killed the project.
What was the result? Exactly what the President said. Energy prices are “expected to TRIPLE.”
This was a choice. Hochul chose to make her state poorer. She chose to make families and the elderly choose between heating their homes and paying for groceries.
This incompetence is so profound that it’s affecting the entire region. “All of Connecticut, including its Governor, and New England, are REALLY ANGRY AT HER,” Trump wrote.
The Stakes: A Necessary Intervention
President Trump’s Truth Social post was not just a “rant,” as the corrupt media will no doubt call it. It was a clear, concise, and necessary statement of fact.
The state of New York, under the control of a single party and a radical, incompetent governor, is failing.
Governor Hochul is taxing her citizens into oblivion with the congestion plan while simultaneously freezing them in their homes by blocking life-saving energy projects. It is a one-two punch of ideological fanaticism and breathtaking incompetence.
President Trump is the only leader with the clarity to see the problem and the courage to offer the solution.
“The entire State is going to hell, so the Federal Government will, of necessity, get involved!” he declared.
