The Democrats’ response to President Trump’s successful crime crackdown in Washington, D.C. is as predictable as it is pathetic. Instead of thanking him for making their city safer, they are having a collective meltdown and screaming for statehood.
Why? Because they are terrified.
They see law and order returning to the streets, and they know it exposes their years of failed leadership. Their demand for statehood has nothing to do with “self-determination” – it is a desperate, cynical power grab to ensure that no strong Republican president can ever again intervene to clean up the crime-ridden mess they have made of our nation’s capital.
Lying About the Crisis They Created
To justify their hysteria, the D.C. swamp creatures are now trying to gaslight the American people into believing there is no crime crisis. The district’s “shadow senator,” Paul Strauss, actually claimed, “It would be one thing if we actually had a crime emergency here, but we don’t.”
This is a stunning and insulting lie.
As the White House correctly pointed out, violent crime in the district has been “spiraling out of control.”
Perhaps they should ask their own Democrat colleague who was carjacked at gunpoint outside his D.C. apartment if he thinks there’s a crime emergency.
The Democrats are denying a reality that their own constituents are living in – and dying in – every single day.
The Real Reason They Want Statehood
This isn’t about giving D.C. residents a voice. This is about a permanent power grab for the national Democratic Party. Let’s look at their two real goals:
- Two New Left-Wing Senators: They want to permanently alter the balance of power in Washington by adding two guaranteed, far-left Democrat senators for life.
- A Swamp Fortress: They want to make sure that no future Republican president can ever again use federal authority to clean up the city, no matter how corrupt or dangerous it becomes under their watch.
They aren’t fighting for home rule; they are fighting for a permanent, untouchable swamp fortress.

Trump Derangement Syndrome on Full Display
The White House spokesperson diagnosed the problem perfectly: “The Democrats’ case of Trump Derangement Syndrome is so severe, they won’t even support President Trump’s commonsense policies to remove dangerous criminals from the streets of our nation’s capital.”
They are so blinded by their hatred for President Trump that they would rather let their city rot than admit that his policies are working. They are not fighting for their residents; they are fighting for their own power and their failed ideology.
Thankfully, President Trump will continue to fight for the safety of all Americans, especially those who are being failed by their own incompetent local leaders.
