Thankfully, the Republicans on the House Rules Committee refused to play their game. They correctly blocked the amendment, not because they are against transparency, but because they are against cheap political theater.

Predictably, the media is highlighting that one Republican, Rep. Ralph Norman, voted with the Democrats. While his desire for transparency is something we all share, he unfortunately fell for the Democrats’ trap.
In every battle against the swamp, there’s always one person who gets confused and breaks ranks. In this case, it was Rep. Ralph Norman of South Carolina.
While the rest of the Republicans on the committee saw the Democrats’ pathetic stunt for what it was, Rep. Norman chose to vote with them. In doing so, he didn’t speed up the release of the files by one second. All he did was hand a massive victory to the fake news media.
He gave them the exact headline they were desperate to write: “Republican Joins Democrats in Push for Epstein Files.” He played right into their hands, allowing them to create the illusion of a divided party and undermine the President’s position.
The Democrats’ goal was never to pass this amendment. Their goal was to get Republicans on record voting against something that sounds good, so they could run to the cameras and scream “cover-up!” It’s the oldest trick in the swamp’s playbook.
