For months, the radical, do-nothing Democrats in the Senate have been engaged in a pathetic and unprecedented campaign of obstruction, holding up 145 of President Donald J. Trump’s qualified nominees and trying to sabotage his America First agenda.
But the days of Republicans playing by the old, weak rules while Democrats burn the place down are officially over.
Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso has just put the Democrats on notice: if you do not stop your un-American obstruction, we will “go nuclear” and “roll over” you to get these patriots confirmed and get our government working for the people.
The Democrats’ Pathetic Obstruction
Let’s be clear about what is happening. President Trump won the election and has a clear mandate from the American people. A key part of that mandate is staffing his administration with qualified, America First patriots.
But the Democrats, bitter and defeated, are abusing the rules of the Senate to hold these nominees hostage. They are not objecting based on qualifications; they are obstructing for purely political reasons.
They would rather see our government grind to a halt than allow President Trump to succeed.
A Lesson in Recent History: The Democrats Started This
The fake news media will try to tell you that this is a “breakdown of norms” and that both sides are to blame. That is a lie.
There is one person who started this war on Senate traditions: former Democrat leader Harry Reid.
Back in 2013, it was Reid who first detonated the “nuclear option” because he couldn’t get his radical, activist judges confirmed. The Democrats broke the Senate. They created these new, bare-knuckle rules. Now, they are going to be forced to live by them. Republicans are simply fighting fire with fire.
The President Has a Mandate
The Constitution calls for the Senate’s “Advice and Consent.” It does not call for the losing party to have a permanent veto over a President’s entire administration.
President Trump was elected to drain the swamp and put his team in place. The American people gave him that authority. The Democrats’ attempt to block 145 nominees is not “advice” – it is a politically motivated insurrection against the will of the voters.
The Bottom Line: Get On Board or Get Rolled Over
The warning from Senator Barrasso is simple and direct. The era of GOP weakness is over. The Democrats have a choice: do your job and allow these qualified nominees to get a fair vote, or prepare to be made completely irrelevant.
