In a move that should outrage every American who believes in the rule of law, a single, unelected federal judge in Boston has defied the will of our elected government and ordered that your tax dollars must continue to flow to the nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood.
President Donald J. Trump and the Republican-led Congress acted to defund this organization as part of the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”
It was a promise kept to the millions of pro-life Americans who are sick and tired of being forced to subsidize an organization that violates their deepest moral values.
But on Monday, an activist judge, appointed by Barack Obama, decided she knows better than the American people and their representatives. This is a disgraceful example of judicial overreach, but make no mistake: this fight is far from over.
The Will of the People vs. One Obama Judge
Let’s be very clear about what happened here. Congress passed a law, and the President signed it. That law included a provision to stop sending federal Medicaid money to Planned Parenthood.
In response, Planned Parenthood ran to a friendly court in a liberal city, and they got exactly what they wanted. U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani, an Obama appointee, issued a nationwide injunction, single-handedly blocking a law passed by our government.
One judge in Boston has decided that she has the power to overrule our entire legislative branch. This is not how our constitutional republic is supposed to work. This is the definition of judicial activism, and it is a threat to our democracy.
The Smokescreen of “Women’s Health”
The judge, echoing the talking points of the abortion industry, claimed her ruling was necessary to prevent “adverse health consequences” and a “reduced access to effective contraceptives.”
This is a pathetic and dishonest smokescreen.
Planned Parenthood is not a healthcare organization; it is an abortion business that receives over half a billion dollars a year from taxpayers. They are a political giant and a key ally of the Democratic party.
There are thousands of Federally Qualified Health Centers across the country that provide a wider range of actual healthcare services to women – like mammograms, which Planned Parenthood does not provide – without performing abortions. The money that was rightfully stripped from Planned Parenthood should be redirected to these legitimate clinics.
This was never about taking away healthcare; it was about redirecting our money to organizations that actually provide it without being in the business of ending lives.
This Fight is Far From Over
While this ruling is an insult to the American people, it is merely a temporary setback. The Trump administration is almost certain to appeal this outrageous decision, and they should.
This fight will not be decided by one activist judge in Boston. It will be decided by the higher courts, including the Supreme Court that President Trump himself helped to shape. We have seen time and time again that this administration has great success in the nation’s highest court, and we have full faith that they will win this battle as well.
President Trump is a fighter. He made a promise to the pro-life community, and he will see this through to the very end. This temporary injunction will not deter him. It will only strengthen his resolve to fight for the unborn and for the American taxpayer.
