In a predictable and desperate move, Democrats on the House oversight committee tried to launch a new smear campaign against President Donald Trump. Facing intense criticism for their role in the ongoing, record-breaking government shutdown, they released a “new batch” of emails related to Jeffrey Epstein.
The move, clearly timed to distract from the Democrats’ political failures, backfired immediately.
The White House and congressional Republicans swiftly condemned the release as a political stunt, pointing out that the “cherry-picked” emails prove nothing and are being contradicted by a much larger release of documents.
President Trump himself took to Truth Social to call out the pathetic tactic for exactly what it is.
A Desperate ‘Deflection’ from Shutdown Failures
The American people are currently suffering through a government shutdown caused by Democrats’ refusal to negotiate. As the public grows angrier over the shutdown, Democrats decided to change the subject.
“The Democrats are trying to bring up the Jeffrey Epstein Hoax again because they’ll do anything at all to deflect on how badly they’ve done on the Shutdown,” President Trump wrote in a powerful Truth Social post.
He is, of course, exactly right. This is a classic political tactic: when you are losing the argument, create a sensational, headline-grabbing distraction.
President Trump immediately pivoted back to the real issue, instructing his party to ignore the noise and fix the problem.
“There should be no deflections to Epstein or anything else,” he wrote. “Any Republicans involved should be focused only on opening up our Country, and fixing the massive damage caused by the Democrats!”
The ‘Bombshell’ That Wasn’t
The Democrats’ entire case rests on three “cherry-picked” emails, which they claim “seemed to suggest” wrongdoing.
In the emails, Epstein—a known manipulator and liar—allegedly told Ghislaine Maxwell about the president and also wrote to author Michael Wolff, “of course he knew about the girls.”
This is the flimsy basis for their smear. They are relying on the uncorroborated, self-serving words of a deceased sex offender.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt shut down the entire narrative in a single, decisive statement.
She explained that the new correspondence “proves absolutely nothing other than the fact that President Trump did nothing wrong.”
Republicans Release the Real Story
The Democrats’ smear campaign lasted only a few hours. The Republican majority on the oversight committee quickly countered by releasing its own tranche of 23,000 documents.
This massive document dump exposed the Democrats’ game for what it was: a dishonest attempt to “generate clickbait.”
Crucially, the GOP members insisted that the “unnamed victim” mentioned in Epstein’s email—whom the Democrats tried to imply was some new, mysterious figure—was actually one of his most prominent accusers, Virginia Giuffre.
This is a critical fact that the Democrats “forgot” to mention.
Press Secretary Leavitt reiterated this, stating that Giuffre “maintained that there was nothing inappropriate she ever witnessed, that President Trump was always extremely professional and friendly to her.”
The Democrats’ “bombshell” wasn’t just a dud; it was an intentional deception.
An Obvious Political Stunt
The timing of this “email drop” is no coincidence. It comes as the House prepares to finally vote on a bill to reopen the federal government—a vote that Republicans and President Trump expect to win.
Democrats are also trying to use the Epstein investigation for other political games.
They are about to swear in a new Democratic lawmaker, Adelita Grijalva. Why is this important? Because she is set to be the 218th signature on a “discharge petition”—a procedural tool designed to force a vote on releasing the full tranche of Epstein investigation records.
This whole affair is a transparent, multi-pronged political attack.
Democrats are trying to:
- Distract from their failure on the government shutdown.
- Smear the president with out-of-context emails.
- Create leverage for their partisan discharge petition.
It is a cynical and failing strategy. The White House and Republicans in Congress have already exposed their “cherry-picked” evidence as a fraud.
