For months, the foreign policy โexpertsโ and the mainstream media have been wringing their hands, screeching that President Trump would abandon our allies and show weakness to Russia. As usual, they were completely, utterly wrong.
They just donโt understand the Art of the Deal.
While they were predicting disaster, President Trump was crafting a masterful, two-pronged strategy to finally bring the war in Ukraine to a head. He isnโt writing blank checks like the last administration. He is forcing a choice. In a move that has stunned the world and united even his critics, President Trump has laid down a clear ultimatum for Vladimir Putin: make peace, or face economic annihilation.
This is what leadership looks like.

Hammer and Sledgehammer
President Trumpโs plan is brilliant in its simplicity and its power. First, he authorized the sale of weapons to our NATO allies, allowing them to resupply Ukraine and ensure they donโt collapse. This isnโt a handout; it’s a strategic move that sends a clear message: we will not let our allies be overrun.
But the real masterstroke is the economic hammer he just dropped.
President Trump has threatened Russia with 100% tariffs on all their goods unless Putin agrees to end the war. This isn’t a slap on the wrist. Itโs a direct threat to cripple the Russian economy and shut down their war machine for good.
And the best part? Congress is ready to back him up with a โsledgehammer.โ Senators Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and, get this, Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), have been working on a massive sanctions bill. But now, theyโre happily giving the President room to work his magic.
Even Blumenthal had to admit Trumpโs move was a โhammerโ and praised him for โseeing through the mocking and flouting by Vladimir Putin.โ When you have a liberal Democrat from Connecticut praising President Trumpโs foreign policy, you know itโs a game changer.
The End of the Blank Check Era
For years, the Washington establishmentโs only solution was to pour billions of taxpayer dollars into Ukraine with no clear strategy and no end in sight. That failed approach only prolonged the conflict.
President Trump has ended the blank check era. His U.S. Ambassador to NATO, Matt Whitaker, has been clear that our goal is to use American leverage to pressure Russia toward a real, lasting peace.
This new strategy does exactly that. By resupplying Ukraineโs dwindling ammunition stocks, we give them strength at the negotiating table. By threatening crippling tariffs, we give Putin a powerful reason to actually show up at that table. Itโs a classic Trump move: create maximum leverage, then make the deal.

Washington Finally Gets the Message
The bipartisan support for this move is stunning. Senator Graham called it the “game changer that we’ve been waiting on.” Senate Majority Leader John Thune has made it clear that if the President needs their sanctions bill to add even more pressure, they are “ready to go.”
The message is echoing through the halls of the Capitol: Trumpโs way works.
For too long, our foreign policy has been run by people who mistake endless spending for strength. President Trump understands that true strength comes from economic power and the credible threat of using it. He is proving that America First doesnโt mean America Alone. It means America leading from a position of undeniable power to achieve peace and stability.
The bottom line is that the ball is now in Putinโs court. The choice is simple: peace talks or economic collapse. Thanks to President Trump, the path to ending the war has never been clearer.
